GRADE:

As applied to the determination of building height shall mean a reference plane representing the average of finished ground level adjoining the building at all exterior walls. When the finished ground level slopes away from the exterior walls, the reference plane shall be established by the lowest points within the area between the building and the plot line or, when the plot line is more than 1.8m from the building, between the building and a point 1.8m from the building. FOUNDATION:

This means a system or arrangement of structural members through which the loads from a building are transferred to supporting soil or rock. Types of foundation: Shallow foundations , often called  footings , are usually embedded about a metre or so into soil. A common type is the spread footing which consists of strips or pads of concrete (or other materials) which extend below the frost line and transfer the weight from walls and columns to the soil or bedrock.
